SHADETREE                                                             SIBERIANS

We are a small show kennel located near Lexington Kentucky. I feel in love with the breed in 1995 with the purchase of my first Siberian who is still with me today. Comet is one of those Siberians who would make most pet owners swear off the breed for life. He taught me everything I never really wanted to know. From his ability to leap tall fences in a single bound to his drive to eliminate every cat in a 500 mile radius of our home I have learned much from this dog. First I learned how to build better fences. 6' foot chain link with electric and surveillance cameras for good measure. He has taught me how to choose a good strong leash and collar that can not be slipped. This dog has taught me not to take anything for granted, Like how he would not be able to open the door of the truck. He showed me... Or to assume he would be safe in a crate while I was at work. He also taught me what crates would last the wrath of Comet. I could write a book about the trouble this old dog has gotten into in his life time.  At 15 years of age he is deaf and almost blind, The hips are wobbly but yet every time I leave I go threw the routine of getting any and all garbage out of the house,  Anything eatable must be way out of reach, and all bedroom  doors must be shut or I will have no shades left when I get home. When I buy new furniture or flooring and clothing what I look for is what will hold the least hair, I don't know how many clothes I have not bought because I can just imagine how much dog hair will cling to it.
What Comet has given me is a small price for what I have now. This wonderful cleaver breed who gives unconditional love, They decorate my floor, my couch, my yard. When I sit down in any part of my house I have 4 soft fuzzy foot rest competing to get closer to me. I accept the fact that it is my job to keep them safe as I know what they are capable of. This breed opened up a new world for me of dog shows. I have had a great time breeding and showing these dogs over the years and I am very proud of what they have accomplished. Going to shows with friends, Traveling and spending time with a dog that I am responsible for its existence has been possablity  the best times of my life. Winning is great but not necessary to be able to enjoy dog showing. Of course it does make the drive home a lot shorter if you can get a nice win. I have been very lucky to have produced some nice dogs in a short amount of time and I am satisfied with how my breeding program has gone so far. With everything there is always room for improvement and I like everyone else spend alot of hours pondering whats next.
I am a member of the SHCA  My goal when I breed which not often is to produce quality paying close attention to temperament and standard.  Yearly eye CERF and OFA are very important in any breeding program. Threw the years reputable breeders have come a long ways to improve overall health and soundness in our breed by doing this testing.
If you are thinking of adding a Siberian Husky to your household please consider. Are you ready for a eternal 2 year old who's mind is always working on what might be fun at that moment regardless the consequences. Can you except the responsibility of keeping this dog safe from what his instincts are telling him to do?  The Siberian has a very high prey drive, they are bred to run and nothing is more fun than a great game of chase often with very bad results. You must be able to understand why they do the things they do and be prepared for it. The shelters are full of unwanted Siberians because people just can not deal with what can be destructive behavior Imagine a cross between a 2 year old child, a cat and a wolf and this is your Siberian.  With a child you must walk into a room and survey what could happen. It is the same with a Siberian. The good news is they do usually mellow a bit with age but do not let down your guard. They never forget that they are Siberian Huskies and can never be trusted off leash. If you can live with and understand this breed it is all a small price to pay for what they give in return.

Urgent Notice: Potential Danger of Dog Hair.....

In a press release today, the National Institute of Health has announced the discovery of a potentially dangerous substance in the hair of dogs. This substance, called "amobacter caninii" has been linked with the following symptoms in females: Reluctance to cook, clean or do housework, a reluctance to wear make-up, good clothes or high heels heels.  Reluctance to spend money on home or car repairs until after 'Baby' has new collars, leashes, beds, treats, food, blankets or toys.

"Amobacter caninii" usually results in long hours away from home and exhaustion which may lead to a loss of physical contact with other humans (especially husbands and boyfriends).  "Amobacter caninii" is thought to be addictive, driving the need for additional sources - this may lead to a "pack mentality" or like the potato chip commercial, "you can't have just one". Beware! If you come in contact with a female human infected by this substance, be prepared to talk about dogs for hours.

Surgeon General's Warning: Dogs are expensive, addictive, and may impair the ability to use common sense.
